Intelligent
media switch cost-effectively delivers high throughput
for Broadcast and Post-Production
Over
the past few years, the Broadcast and Post-Production
industry has been struggling with network and
storage issues. Among the key issues that have
gone unmet are the need for high-throughput, high-bandwidth
networks coupled to large common storage, the
ability to link different file systems to common
storage and access files without transferring
them to local storage, the ability to share large
files across platforms and allow multiple users
to simultaneously share the same files. |
ExaMax
MS: Increased Throughput per IO Port
Exavio
overcomes the limitations of traditional broadcast and
post-production systems with an innovative approach
that decouples the I/O performance of the server from
the performance of the disk drives. The ExaMax MS video
streaming server, with solid-state memory, processing
and Exavio's software technologies, no longer depends
on attached online disk storage to deliver performance.
It eliminates the need for expensive SCSI disks and
allows streaming content to be sourced directly from
the ExaVault storage system.
ExaMax
Technology makes ExaMax MS a high-speed data mover that
provides flow control and more throughput per IO port
than any other broadcast/post-production solution. With
Multiple Instruction/Multiple Data parallel processing
architecture and high-level audio/video functions provide
bandwidth for increased functionality beyond traditional
SAN or NAS, increase productivity, and eliminate low-level
tasks. Low latency increases the reliability of the
editor interface, ending bottlenecks and lost data.
ExaMax
MS Features:
Performance
- ExaMax MS provides the bandwidth to support high definition
and 2K film that optimizes the balance between RAID
size and IO throughput to maximize the cost per Storages
IO Throughput (SLOT) ratio. Additionally, it includes
non-blocking IO, wire speed system configuration, and
video awareness that enhance performance.
Value-Add
Services - High-level audio/video stream functions
include on-the-fly Material Exchange Format (MXF) wrap,
unwrapping, and read headers, on-the-fly MXF to AFF/AFF
to MXF conversion, on-the-fly multiplexing/inverse multiplexing
to separate or merge audio/video files. Support for
SAN, NAS, and SAN/NAS split configuration allows central
storage to be shared across all devices in a facility,
even those that don't support SAN.
Manageability
- Trays can be moved between systems, automatically
identified and made accessible in the new system. ExaMax
MS provides NAS support for large files and supports
common platforms and protocols including XFS, CIFS (Windows
2000, Windows XP), Linux NFS (V2/V3), Samba, and FTP.
For SAN, it provides tested interoperability with FC
switches, HBA, and existing broadcast and post-production
equipment. ExaMax MS includes all the tools needed to
simplifiy RAID storage management. It requires less
power than SCSI drives and allows unused drives to be
turned off in archive applications. QoS features manage
work flow needs, give prority to critical tasks, and
allocate bandwidth for fast rebuilds or restores. ExaMax
MS also includes backup tools, cache expansion and security
management
Reliability
- Performance monitoring allows systems to be monitored,
failures predicted, or expansion needs to be determined,
and these issues to be addressed before they impact
work flow. RAID management is handled in the background
to avoid degrading system performance and provide greater
uptime operation. ExaMax MS supports remote monitoring
through SNMP and third-party services. Redundancy provides
increases reliability even further.
Availability
- Intelligent caching provides more bandwidth and decreases
storage RAID striping requirements. ExaMax MS transfers
content faster than real-time transfers from optical
disks, memory devices, tapes, WANs, BC servers, and
workstations. The high bandwidth provides the ability
to take advantage of SD four or eight times network
transfer rates available on new acquisition and storage
devices. ExaMax MS also takes full advantage of 2 Gigabit
connectivity and the flexibility of Firewire. With non-disruptive
firmware upgrades to Flash memory, there is no costly
downtime when firmware is updated.
Scalability
- System storage can be expanded to provide online,
near line and archive on a disk-based system. Trays
can even be removed and placed on the shelf or moved
to another facility. Modular design and option cards
make it extremely easy to tailor systems to your exact
needs. High-density rack unit spacing maximizes storage
and bandwidth while minimizing rack space. Management
tools support dynamic scaling of storage or bandwidth
without disrupting systems or users. The large number
of supported LUNs provides expansion without walls.
ExaMax
MS provides the highest bandwidth available for broadcast
and post-production on a reasonably priced entry-level
system whose throughput increments can be easily and
cost-effectively upgraded to fit any need. |
